Michael Birchall / Fatos Ustek / Carmen Papella / Rebecca Heald and the curating course at the Royal College of Art

Organised by lecturer, Michael Birchall, the postgraduate programme visited London in March 2015, where they visited the ICA, and met with curator, Fatos Ustek who talked about the project “Fig-2”. Artist, Carmen Papella – artist in residence at the Victoria and Albert museum – led a “Blind Field Shuttle” in Bethnal Green. In addition, we visited Raven Row, Whitechapel Gallery, Chisenhale, The Wellcome Collection and Cubitt Gallery & Studios; and had guided tours and informal discussions.

Together with the curating course at the Royal College of Art, and their tutor Rebecca Heald, we formed groupings based around their graduate exhibitions on themes including language, globalisation, theatre and the black box. This was an opportunity for curating students from both programmes to exchange ideas on contemporary curatorial practice.
